Medical completed ✅ Liverpool move one step closer to sealing a £60m transfer deal 🔴✍️

Liverpool are said to have moved even closer to securing the signing of Rennes centre-back Jérémy Jacquet, with the defender now having completed his medical with the Reds.

The highly rated 20-year-old has attracted strong interest throughout the winter window, and The Athletic previously reported that a medical with Liverpool had been lined up.

That step has now been completed, according to Telegraph journalist Mike McGrath, who revealed on X that Jacquet is set to join Liverpool in a deal that could be worth up to £60m this summer.

Sharing the update, McGrath wrote: “Jérémy Jacquet has completed his medical at Liverpool. The 20-year-old centre-back will join #LFC in a £60m deal, with £55m paid up front, and will link up with the club in the summer after finishing the season at Rennes.”

Liverpool win race for Jacquet ahead of Chelsea
Chelsea were also keen on Jacquet earlier in the window, but negotiations failed to progress, leaving the door open for Liverpool to strike.

Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol had highlighted Chelsea’s interest, though Rennes were always keen for the defender to remain at the club until the end of the season — a condition Liverpool were willing to accept.

That willingness appears to have given the Reds the edge, while Chelsea’s immediate need for defensive reinforcements saw them recall Mamadou Sarr from his loan at Strasbourg instead.

Liverpool supporters will be thrilled to see the club act decisively to secure one of Europe’s most promising young defenders. The move also makes sense looking ahead, with Virgil van Dijk advancing in years and Ibrahima Konaté approaching the final stages of his contract.
