Roberto De Zerbi has received a potential injury boost at Spurs, with Mathys Tel seen back in training over the weekend.
Tel had been an early doubt for De Zerbi’s first match in charge against Sunderland after picking up an injury in the defeat to Nottingham Forest before the international break. The forward later withdrew from France U21 duty, but footage from the club’s training session showed him working under the new head coach.
In his first interview, De Zerbi made it clear he will remain at Tottenham Hotspur next season regardless of whether they avoid relegation from the Premier League in the final seven games. He stressed the need to take things one match at a time, focusing on preparation, belief, and securing results.
The Italian also highlighted the importance of courage, organisation, and adapting to the players’ strengths. While acknowledging limited time to fully implement his philosophy, he reiterated his desire for a possession-based style, combined with collective attacking and defending. De Zerbi emphasized building the right mentality and helping players maximise their talent, expressing confidence in the squad and commitment to the long-term project after signing a five-year deal.
Elsewhere, several players have returned to training, including Conor Gallagher, Lucas Bergvall, and João Palhinha. However, Guglielmo Vicario remains a major doubt following hernia surgery, while Pape Matar Sarr is also a concern after suffering a shoulder injury on international duty.
Mohammed Kudus and Rodrigo Bentancur could return to contention after resuming individual training before the break. Ben Davies and Yves Bissouma are targeting comebacks later this month, while James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski are aiming to return before the season ends. Meanwhile, Wilson Odobert remains sidelined long-term with an ACL injury.
