Giorgi Mamardashvili saw his first Merseyside derby outing cut short after picking up an injury while attempting to stop Beto from scoring Everton’s equaliser early in the second half.
The 25-year-old had started Liverpool’s last six matches, filling in for the injured Alisson Becker, but he may now join his fellow shot-stopper on the sidelines after being forced off at Hill Dickinson Stadium. His misfortune only adds to what has been a difficult season for the club.
So, how did Mamardashvili get injured against Everton?
In the 54th minute, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall swung in a cross from the left, which Beto converted to level the score. As Mamardashvili rushed out in a desperate attempt to stop the goal, he collided with both the scorer and Andy Robertson, who had tracked back to defend.
The goalkeeper immediately needed treatment on the pitch and was eventually stretchered off, with Freddie Woodman coming on to make his Premier League debut for Liverpool and see out the rest of the match.
