Tottenham could dominate the Championship next season by re-signing a 15-goal striker who is reportedly open to a return.
The club may already be preparing for different scenarios ahead of the next campaign, depending on whether their survival fight in the Premier League is successful or not. After another winless result at the weekend, where they conceded a stoppage-time equaliser, pressure continues to build, while rivals like Nottingham Forest and Leeds United picked up victories. With Roberto De Zerbi still searching for his first win, Spurs’ remaining fixtures offer little comfort apart from a clash against bottom side Wolves, making the situation increasingly tense.
As a result, Tottenham’s recruitment team are expected to plan for both Premier League and Championship football next season.
One name strongly linked with a return is former Spurs striker Troy Parrott. Reports suggest the club could consider bringing him back, with Parrott also open to rejoining regardless of the division Tottenham find themselves in.
Spurs still retain a 20% sell-on clause from his departure, which could effectively reduce his transfer cost if they decide to act. His current club, AZ Alkmaar, are said to value him between £24m and £26m, meaning Tottenham could potentially sign him for under £20m due to that clause.
Parrott has enjoyed an impressive season, scoring 15 goals and providing 4 assists in the Eredivisie, along with 4 goals and 1 assist in the Europa League. He also registered 14 league goals the previous season, showing steady improvement since leaving North London in 2024 for £6.7m after progressing through Tottenham’s academy.
While his form in the Netherlands and with the Republic of Ireland highlights his development, questions remain over how quickly he could adapt to Premier League demands week in, week out. However, he is widely viewed as a strong attacking option who could excel in the Championship if Spurs were relegated.
The situation is expected to remain one to watch heading into the summer transfer window, especially with Tottenham’s league status still uncertain.
