The reason Igor Tudor has not yet been replaced at Tottenham Hotspur has now come to light.
Calls for the Croatian coach to be dismissed have intensified following Tottenham’s heavy defeat to Atlético Madrid, marking the club’s fourth consecutive loss since Tudor took charge. Reports also claim that many players have already lost confidence in the 47-year-old, with several members of the dressing room surprised by his tactics and decision-making.
Despite expectations that he might be removed immediately after the damaging defeat in Madrid, it has been suggested that there is one main reason he remains in the role.
Managers unwilling to take the job
Journalist Miguel Delaney has reported that the club’s delay in replacing Tudor is not because they believe he can turn things around. Instead, the main issue is the lack of a clear alternative, with several potential candidates reportedly reluctant to take on the Tottenham position.
Writing in his newsletter for The Independent, Delaney explained that multiple sources believe the situation is largely due to the club struggling to identify a suitable replacement. A number of managers are said to have indicated they do not want to accept the challenge, partly because of the risk and pressure involved in managing such a high-profile club during a difficult period. Some are also wary of the potential stigma of being associated with the team if relegation becomes a possibility.
Possible replacements being discussed
Former Everton and Burnley manager Sean Dyche has been mentioned as a potential option, although he is reportedly hesitant to take on a short-term role and could face complications linked to his previous situation with Nottingham Forest.
Other names linked with the position include Robbie Keane, while Ryan Mason has also been discussed as a possible interim solution following his departure from West Bromwich Albion.
Reports suggest Tudor may be given until Tottenham’s upcoming match against Nottingham Forest to try to save his job.
