Tottenham are enduring a disastrous campaign and currently face the threat of relegation, and one notable absentee during this difficult period has been Dejan Kulusevski. The former Juventus player has yet to make a single appearance in the 2025/26 season after suffering a serious knee injury that required surgery.
At 25, the Swedish international is experiencing the toughest phase of his career. He has been sidelined for nearly 10 months, leaving him unable to help Tottenham Hotspur in their fight to avoid relegation from the Premier League. However, there are signs that his recovery is progressing.
Kulusevski recently shared a cryptic message on social media that hinted at his determination to return soon. In the post, he quoted a verse from the Bible, taken from the prophet Isaiah: “Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength; they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not faint.” The message reflected both his frustration with the long spell on the sidelines and his confidence that he will soon be back on the pitch. He also included the song For a Better Day by the late Swedish DJ Avicii. On his social media platforms, Kulusevski continues to share photos and videos of his training as he works towards a return.
The winger has not played since 11 May 2025, when he suffered an injury to his right kneecap during a match against Crystal Palace. The injury required surgery and was followed by a lengthy and challenging rehabilitation period, making it unclear when he will be able to play again. Tottenham manager Igor Tudor admitted that there is still uncertainty around the player’s recovery, explaining that while Kulusevski has faced serious difficulties, he remains positive and continues to work with the medical staff in hopes of returning before the end of the season.
As a result, his future remains uncertain. Much will depend on his physical condition and the division Tottenham will be competing in next season. Despite his extended absence, the Swedish winger still attracts interest from several clubs across Europe, including teams in Italy. With potential changes expected within Tudor’s squad, a departure could become a possibility in the coming months.
Kulusevski joined Tottenham from Juventus for €30 million and has made 146 appearances for the club, scoring 25 goals and providing 30 assists. He also won the UEFA Europa League, although he watched the final from the sidelines and collected his medal while on crutches.
