A troubling report has emerged from inside Tottenham Hotspur, with several players said to be extremely frustrated as tensions continue to grow behind the scenes. According to Marcus Buckland, the atmosphere within the club has become “desperate,” with key members of the squad reportedly seething over the current situation.
Spurs had hoped to respond positively after West Ham United secured a victory and Nottingham Forest played out a draw, but their plans quickly unraveled with a 3-1 home defeat to Crystal Palace. The loss was made worse by Micky van de Ven receiving a red card for bringing down Ismaila Sarr, leaving him suspended.
The result extended Tottenham’s poor run to 11 matches without a win in the Premier League, leaving them just one point above the relegation zone ahead of a difficult trip to Liverpool FC.
Since taking charge, Igor Tudor has lost all three of his matches, with little sign of progress compared to the period under Thomas Frank. As a result, the possibility of dropping into the EFL Championship next season is now a genuine concern.
Problems are not limited to the pitch. According to Buckland, a source inside the club described Tottenham’s hierarchy as “clueless.” The presenter also revealed that the club had initially attempted to appoint Tudor before hiring Frank, only to turn back to the Croatian last month. During the defeat to Crystal Palace, some supporters directed their frustration toward executives Vinai Venkatesham and Johan Lange for their roles in the club’s struggles this season, while Palace boss Oliver Glasner oversaw the victory.
Buckland also reported that Tottenham players are “seething” over the current situation. He highlighted that fans should not expect much from Cristian Romero and Van de Ven when they return to action. Romero will be available again for the trip to Anfield after serving a four-match suspension, while Van de Ven will miss that game following his dismissal.
There were further signs of frustration within the squad, with Pedro Porro visibly angry when substituted against Crystal Palace. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario is reportedly keen to secure a move back to Serie A in the summer.
Tottenham’s players find themselves in the middle of a genuine relegation fight, something their rivals such as West Ham, Nottingham Forest and Leeds United appear better equipped to handle. The lack of experience and composure in such a battle could prove costly.
However, predictions from Opta Sports offer a small boost. Their supercomputer forecasts Tottenham finishing 16th in the Premier League table, surviving relegation by three points. The same prediction suggests West Ham would drop out of the top flight, which would come as relief for Spurs supporters.
The coming weeks are likely to be decisive as the season approaches its conclusion, including when Tottenham host Nottingham Forest later this month.
