Cristian Romero’s long-term future at Tottenham Hotspur is uncertain ahead of the summer, with the Spurs captain attracting strong interest from several top European clubs.
Some reports claim that Romero’s contract includes a £52m release clause that can be triggered this summer by Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid. However, other sources, including Fabrizio Romano, insist there is no formal clause, suggesting instead that the defender has a gentleman’s agreement with Daniel Levy allowing him to leave for a similar fee.
Despite the uncertainty over the specifics of his contract, many believe the 27-year-old could still depart this summer, even if Tottenham remain in the Premier League.
Romero’s father, Victor Romero, has now addressed the situation, indicating that Spurs would be open to a sale as long as they recover their investment in the player. Speaking to Cadena 3, he said that his son still has two years left on his deal and that any potential transfer would likely fall within a range of $50–$70 million (£37.8m–£53m), as the club would not allow him to leave cheaply.
Meanwhile, speculation in Argentina has linked Romero with a potential return to his boyhood club, Club Atletico Belgrano. Victor admitted he would welcome such a move but revealed he has no concrete knowledge about it.
He described the rumours as growing rapidly, adding that while he would love to see his son return as both a fan and a father, he remains unaware of any real developments. He also noted that in football, situations can change quickly, making it difficult to predict what will happen next.
