Liverpool FC have been dealt a major setback after striker Hugo Ekitike suffered a serious Achilles injury during their UEFA Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain.
The French international is expected to be out for between nine and twelve months, forcing Liverpool to rethink their attacking options ahead of the summer window. Reports from TEAMtalk suggest the club are now planning to sign two high-quality forwards, with Anthony Gordon of Newcastle United emerging as a key target.
The former Everton FC winger has impressed this season, offering versatility across the front line along with goals and creativity. His familiarity with the Premier League and his known support for Liverpool could work in the Reds’ favour. However, Newcastle may be reluctant to sell, especially given their current attacking struggles, and losing a player with 22 goal contributions would be a significant blow.
Liverpool are also keeping close tabs on Iliman Ndiaye, who has been one of Everton’s standout performers this season with nine league goal contributions. Any deal, though, could prove difficult given the rivalry between the two clubs.
Other names on Liverpool’s shortlist include Jarrod Bowen, Harry Wilson, and Bazoumana Toure. With Mohamed Salah potentially departing and no proper replacement yet found for Luis Diaz, strengthening the wide areas is now a top priority.
Given their importance to their current sides, both Gordon and Ndiaye would likely command hefty transfer fees.
