Former Spurs scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that things have not gone to plan for Conor Gallagher at Tottenham Hotspur, though interest from other clubs remains strong. As a result, Spurs could recoup their investment in the midfielder during what is expected to be a busy summer window, whether they are in the Premier League or the Championship.
Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness also revealed that Tottenham are planning an active transfer window to support Roberto De Zerbi. Both arrivals and departures are expected, with Gallagher among those likely to leave as the club looks to clear out underperforming players.
Gallagher’s brief spell in North London has been challenging, and while he still has an opportunity to impress the new manager, he could be allowed to depart if the right offer comes in. Brown explained that the move simply has not worked out, noting that the midfielder has struggled to make a meaningful impact since arriving in a difficult situation. He also questioned why Gallagher was not a regular at Atlético Madrid and why they were open to letting him go.
Despite this, Gallagher continues to attract interest due to his qualities, and Tottenham may decide to cut their losses and move forward. Even if the club remains in the Premier League, his performances so far suggest he may not have a significant role in the future, making a transfer increasingly likely.
Several clubs are monitoring his situation. Aston Villa came close to signing him in January after agreeing a deal with Atlético Madrid, only for Spurs to step in at the last moment. Villa manager Unai Emery is known to admire Gallagher and could revive interest this summer.
Crystal Palace have also retained a long-standing interest following his successful loan spell, while Manchester United were among the sides considering a move earlier this year.
