Many Tottenham Hotspur supporters will be hoping West Ham slip up in that fixture, as a victory for Nuno Espírito Santo’s side could see them overtake Spurs and climb out of the relegation zone.
Still, Tottenham’s destiny in the survival battle is in their own hands. A win against Sunderland later in the gameweek could lift them as high as 15th, provided other results go in their favour.
However, Roberto De Zerbi may have to navigate that trip to the Stadium of Light without several key players. Eight members of the squad are currently unavailable, which, although an improvement from recent weeks, still leaves Spurs short-handed.
At present, James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, Rodrigo Bentancur, Wilson Odobert, Ben Davies, Mohammed Kudus, Guglielmo Vicario, Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma are either ruled out or doubtful for the clash.
There is still a possibility that the situation improves before Sunday. Kudus remains a doubt but could return in time, with hints of his comeback following the international break. Meanwhile, Vicario is sidelined after undergoing hernia surgery following the Nottingham Forest defeat, though his absence may not be long-term.
Pape Matar Sarr is the only player to have picked up an injury during the international break, and the length of his layoff is still uncertain.
