A new report from BILD suggests that the 46-year-old is set for a crucial period in the coming months, with several clubs competing to secure his services.
Among the interested parties is Hamburger SV, who are planning ahead but will base their decision on their final position in the Bundesliga. If they avoid relegation, Sebastian Kehl could be appointed as their new board member for sport. He remains a strong candidate, with ongoing speculation surrounding his potential arrival.
However, Tottenham Hotspur are also firmly in the race. Reports indicate that Kehl is engaged in intensive talks with the North London club over a possible move to England. The German director could step in to replace Fabio Paratici at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, following Paratici’s departure to ACF Fiorentina in January, where he is now involved in another relegation battle.
There is also uncertainty surrounding the future of Johan Lange, who is currently serving as sporting director at Spurs but has come under pressure as the club fights to stay up.
Tottenham are exploring alternative options as well, including Stefan Reuter. Currently at FC Augsburg, Reuter is reportedly open to taking on a new senior management role, making him a viable option should a move for Kehl not materialise.
Kehl’s reputation remains strong following eight years at Borussia Dortmund, where he served as head of first-team football and later as sporting director. Although he departed earlier this year and faced criticism over a number of underwhelming signings and Dortmund’s struggles to keep pace with rivals in the transfer market, interest in his services has not diminished.
Both Tottenham and Hamburg are keen, and the competition to secure his signature is only just beginning.
