Liverpool’s injury worries have deepened further, with new reports indicating that Hugo Ekitike may face a longer spell on the sidelines than was originally expected.
The French forward was initially projected to be out for around nine months after suffering a ruptured Achilles tendon, but updated information now suggests his recovery could take even longer.
According to L’Équipe, the severity of the injury picked up against Paris Saint-Germain on April 14 may have been underestimated at first.
The report explains: “Having suffered a rupture of his right Achilles tendon against PSG in the Champions League on April 14, Liverpool striker Hugo Ekitike underwent surgery in London five days ago.”
It adds that “Hugo Ekitike’s tears on the Anfield pitch will remain one of the defining images of spring 2026.”
The 23-year-old has already had successful surgery and has now begun his rehabilitation programme under the supervision of a specialist medical team.
