There is no shortage of talent within the Tottenham Hotspur squad, and they should arguably be performing better than their current position in the Premier League suggests. The quality is evident, but getting the group to function cohesively has been Tottenham’s main challenge during the first half of the season.
With interim boss Igor Tudor now in charge, there is renewed hope that things will finally click as Spurs aim to steer clear of the relegation battle.
Midfielder Pape Matar Sarr — who has made 17 league appearances this season, scoring twice and providing three assists — recently featured on Premier League Uncut, where he was asked to create his ultimate Tottenham player using only current teammates.
For pace, the 23-year-old immediately chose Micky van de Ven. Injured playmaker James Maddison got the nod for shooting ability, while club captain Cristian Romero was selected for passing.
However, Sarr’s choice for best dribbler raised eyebrows. He picked Wilson Odobert ahead of options such as Mohammed Kudus, Dejan Kulusevski and Xavi Simons. Romero was again selected as the ultimate defender, while Kevin Danso was chosen for physicality.
Despite the squad’s evident quality, injuries continue to disrupt Tottenham’s progress. Heading into the weekend’s North London derby against Arsenal, Tudor will be without several of Sarr’s selections. Maddison, Odobert and Danso remain sidelined, and Romero is suspended for the league clash.
