Tottenham Hotspur have beaten Arsenal to the signing of Hearts striker James Wilson, according to Fabrizio Romano. Both North London clubs were monitoring the highly-rated teenager, with Hearts publicly confirming interest from Spurs and Arsenal.
Wilson has made a strong impression in Scotland despite not being a regular starter for Hearts’ senior side, who currently sit top of the Scottish Premiership. He is set to move to Tottenham on loan with an option to buy, meaning he will need to prove himself before securing a permanent switch to North London.
If Spurs decide to activate the buy option, Wilson could go on to challenge Dominic Solanke for the number nine role in the long term. Romano confirmed the deal on X, writing:
“James Wilson to Tottenham, here we go! Deal in place for Scottish 18-year-old striker to join #THFC project. Arsenal were offering a trial while Spurs offer loan deal with buy option clause now agreed with Hearts. Medical happening now with formal steps next.”
Wilson is expected to initially feature for Tottenham’s U21 side as he continues his development, but he is widely regarded as one of the brightest young talents in Scottish football. Most of his senior appearances this season have come in the Scottish League Cup, where he has scored two goals in four matches.
At youth level, he excelled in the Scottish Lowland League, registering 14 goals and six assists in 26 games, further underlining his reputation as an exciting prospect for the future.
