Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly made a decision regarding Thomas Frank’s future ahead of their upcoming Premier League clash with Newcastle United, with contingency plans already in place should a managerial change be enforced.
According to TEAMtalk, Frank could be just one match away from losing his job following Tottenham’s latest defeat to Manchester United. Spurs fell to a 2-0 loss at Old Trafford, a result that in isolation may not appear damaging, but one that further underlined a deeply underwhelming campaign.
Tottenham currently sit 15th in the Premier League table, showing little progression from last season’s 17th-place finish. Performances throughout the campaign have drawn sustained criticism, placing Frank under growing pressure. While the defeat against Manchester United was compounded by Cristian Romero’s early red card, it has done little to ease concerns surrounding the club’s direction.
The report claims Frank’s position is now at “breaking point,” with the Newcastle fixture potentially his final opportunity to turn things around. Should Spurs decide to part ways with the Danish manager, an interim appointment is expected. Johnny Heitinga, who is already part of the club’s coaching staff, is reportedly being considered for the temporary role, allowing the club time to identify a long-term successor.
Mauricio Pochettino has also been mentioned as a potential permanent replacement. However, any return would not be immediate, as the Argentine is currently in charge of the United States national team and is set to remain in that role through the World Cup. A move back to north London would therefore be more likely in the summer.
