“Sounds a Bit Mad” – Gary Lineker Proposes Surprise Replacement for Igor Tudor at Tottenham Hotspur
Gary Lineker has suggested that Tottenham Hotspur consider a bold move by bringing back Harry Redknapp as manager until the end of the season.
Igor Tudor took over as caretaker manager last month, tasked with keeping Spurs in the Premier League and helping the club climb the table. However, results have continued to decline since the Croatian replaced Thomas Frank, with Tottenham suffering three consecutive defeats and showing little sign of improvement.
Spurs appeared on track for a positive result against Crystal Palace on Thursday after taking the lead through Dominic Solanke. But the match quickly turned during a disastrous 10-minute spell that saw stand-in captain Micky van de Ven sent off and three goals conceded.
The defeat leaves Tottenham just one point above the relegation zone ahead of their trip to face Liverpool F.C. this weekend, raising fears that the club could face the possibility of dropping into the second tier next season.
Lineker Calls for Another Change
While injuries have played a role since Tudor’s arrival, the lack of improvement in performances has become a growing concern.
Speaking on the Rest is Football podcast, Lineker suggested Tottenham should consider ending the Tudor experiment and turning to the experienced Redknapp to steady the situation.
He said:
“Honestly, I don’t think it would be a bad idea to bring someone like Harry Redknapp in. I know it sounds a bit mad and he’s been out of the game for a while, but you know what he’s like — that big personality, lifting everybody in a moment of crisis. A little bit like what Martin O’Neill did on a couple of occasions at Celtic F.C..”
A Risk That Could Pay Off
Despite the quality within Tottenham’s squad, confidence appears to be extremely low at the moment.
Redknapp has long been known for his strong man-management and his ability to motivate players during difficult periods. Although he has not managed since leaving Birmingham City F.C. in 2017, Tottenham’s remaining nine games could represent a short-term solution where experience and personality are needed to restore belief and secure results.
With no clear signs of progress under Tudor so far, the idea of turning to a seasoned figure like Redknapp may not be the worst option as Spurs attempt to steer away from the relegation battle.
