After an exciting weekend of FA Cup matches that produced some intriguing quarter-final clashes, six English teams are now competing in Europe’s top tournament.
Liverpool were the first English side to play on Tuesday night but suffered a narrow 1–0 loss away to Galatasaray.
Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid cruised to a 5–2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur, with goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky substituted after just 17 minutes following a difficult start.
Elsewhere, Bayern Munich thrashed Atalanta 6–1, while a late penalty from Lamine Yamal secured a 1–1 draw for Barcelona against Newcastle United.
There’s more Champions League action coming on Wednesday, with Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester City all set to play.
Arsenal will face Bayer Leverkusen, Chelsea take on Paris Saint-Germain, and Manchester City meet Real Madrid, while Bodo/Glimt play Sporting Lisbon in the other fixture.
Studio drama on talkSPORT
It happened again for Jamie O’Hara, who stormed out of the talkSPORT studio for the second time in under a week — once again following a miserable night for Tottenham.
O’Hara was discussing Spurs’ heavy 5–2 defeat to Atletico Madrid on talkSPORT alongside Jason Cundy, who was playfully provoking him while wearing an Ange Postecoglou mask.
During the Sports Bar show, O’Hara eventually lost patience with Cundy’s constant teasing.
When Cundy tried to highlight a positive by pointing out Spurs drew the second half with both sides scoring once at the Wanda Metropolitano, O’Hara snapped.
“Stop talking about the second half… seriously, just shut up,” O’Hara shouted.
“I’m trying not to swear, but you can’t keep saying that. You’re supposed to be a professional pundit.”
Cundy made the point once more, and just like after Spurs’ loss to Crystal Palace last week, the former Spurs midfielder walked out of the studio.
Tudor explains Kinsky decision
Tottenham interim manager Igor Tudor also addressed his surprising decision to start Antonin Kinsky before replacing him just 17 minutes into the match.
“I’ve been coaching for 15 years and I’ve never done something like this,” Tudor said in his press conference.
“But it was necessary to protect both the player and the team. It was an unusual situation.
“Before the game, I believed it was the correct decision given the pressure on Guglielmo Vicario.
“Tony is a good goalkeeper. At the time it felt right, but afterwards it’s easy to say it wasn’t.”
Tudor added that he spoke to Kinsky after the game.
“I told him he’s the right man and a talented goalkeeper, but unfortunately mistakes can happen in big matches.
“After that difficult start, it became too much for us, especially when the team is already fragile.”
Questions over Tudor’s future
When asked about his future at Tottenham, Tudor kept his response brief.
The interim boss faced several questions following the defeat and was asked whether he deserved to remain in charge.
“No comment,” he replied.
Supporters demand refunds
The Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust has urged the club to refund fans who travelled to Madrid for the humiliating defeat.
In a statement posted on X, they said:
“Tonight’s performance and result were a total disgrace and reflect the terrible situation the club currently finds itself in.
“From the January transfer window to managerial decisions, there has been a lack of leadership and very little connection to the club’s traditions.”
They continued by questioning the club’s direction and calling for urgent action.
“At the very least, supporters who attended the match in Madrid should receive refunds for their tickets. But above all, we just want a club we can be proud of again.
“We’re here to support the team and be the 12th man, but fans deserve much better.”
