Tottenham Hotspur’s 3–1 defeat to Crystal Palace earlier in March increased the pressure ahead of their clash with Liverpool FC, leaving Spurs just one point above the relegation zone. The situation has placed Igor Tudor under serious pressure, with his position at risk after only four matches in charge.
The Champions League outing did little to ease the tension. Spurs suffered a heavy 5–2 defeat in the first leg of their round-of-16 tie against Atlético Madrid, conceding four goals within the opening 22 minutes.
According to Sofascore, Randal Kolo Muani delivered a poor performance during the midweek match and could be among five players dropped from the starting lineup for Tottenham’s meeting with Liverpool.
Kolo Muani set to make way for Solanke
The French forward has started every game under Tudor so far. Although he scored in the North London derby, his overall performances this season have been disappointing and he appears short of confidence. Meanwhile, Dominic Solanke has impressed for Spurs and is expected to replace Kolo Muani in the lineup.
Defensive and midfield changes
Tudor confirmed during his Friday press conference that Cristian Romero and João Palhinha will miss the match as the club follows concussion protocols after the pair collided during the game against Atlético Madrid.
Romero’s absence may lead Tudor to switch to a 4-4-2 formation, with Conor Gallagher coming into the side as a right midfielder.
Micky van de Ven is suspended for the trip to Anfield, meaning Radu Drăgușin is expected to partner Kevin Danso in central defence.
Mathys Tel could also drop out after underwhelming displays, with Xavi Simons returning to the side. In goal, Guglielmo Vicario is likely to replace Antonín Kinský following the young goalkeeper’s difficult Champions League debut.
Gallagher’s struggles this season
Despite his experience at the top level, Gallagher has struggled to find form under both Thomas Frank and Tudor. Earlier in March, he was used on the right side in the defeat to Fulham FC, a position that does not suit him naturally. He was then left out of the next two matches, but injuries and suspensions may see him return to the lineup.
