In the hours leading up to kickoff, large numbers of Galatasaray S.K. ultras flooded the streets around the team bus and city centre, chanting loudly, waving flags, and igniting red flares and fireworks.
The spectacle was so intense it could be seen and heard from several blocks away.
The restriction follows earlier crowd trouble during Galatasaray’s clash with Juventus FC, where incidents included objects being thrown and fireworks set off.
As a result, UEFA issued a €40,000 fine and banned the club from selling away tickets for this fixture in the interest of safety.
Clips of the scenes quickly spread across social media, underlining the irony — despite the ban, the atmosphere was still unmistakably shaped by their presence.
