Despite their injury concerns, Spurs earned a crucial point in a 1-1 draw against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, keeping them just one point above the Premier League relegation zone. However, they are still searching for their first league win of 2026.
There was also renewed belief after Sporting Lisbon staged a remarkable comeback from 3-0 down to defeat Bodo/Glimt 5-3 on Tuesday night, offering hope that Tottenham could turn things around against Atlético.
However, they may have to do so without two key players.
Solanke Facing Late Fitness Test
Manager Igor Tudor confirmed in his pre-match press conference that Dominic Solanke is dealing with “small problems” and will be assessed on Wednesday to determine if he can be included in the squad.
If the £65m striker is unavailable, it creates a selection issue in attack, especially with Richarlison suspended for one match after receiving a yellow card in the first leg at the Estadio Metropolitano.
Randal Kolo Muani could be called upon to lead the line, having come off the bench against Liverpool after being substituted at half-time in the first leg against Atlético.
Gallagher Struggling With Illness
Conor Gallagher is also a concern ahead of the return leg, as he continues to battle a virus that has worsened his asthma. Tudor revealed that the club is monitoring his condition to determine whether he can at least make the bench.
The midfielder’s condition has limited his availability, and he was unable to train on Tuesday, making him a serious doubt for the match.
Gallagher has endured a challenging start at Tottenham since his January move, with recent performances seeing him spend time on the bench. His high-energy playing style makes any breathing-related issue particularly problematic.
Tottenham will need to manage his situation carefully, especially with an important Premier League fixture against Nottingham Forest coming up on Sunday.
If Gallagher is unavailable, Lucas Bergvall—recently back from injury—could step into the squad.
