Lucas Moura was rushed to the hospital after suffering a serious injury during São Paulo’s defeat.

Former Lucas Moura has been taken to hospital after suffering a serious injury during São Paulo’s 1–0 defeat to Atlético Mineiro.

The 33-year-old was introduced from the bench, but his appearance took a worrying turn just 12 minutes later. Moura was involved in a heavy collision with Tomás Cuello, leaving him with significant facial injuries and reportedly two broken ribs, which led to immediate breathing problems. Medical staff quickly entered the pitch before he was stretchered off and transported straight to hospital.

São Paulo later confirmed that Moura is undergoing further medical tests in Belo Horizonte. The club also stated that he will return to São Paulo to continue treatment once he is stable.

The injury is a major blow for São Paulo, who had been enjoying a six-match unbeaten run before the loss. The defeat not only ended their momentum but also prevented them from closing the gap on league leaders Palmeiras.

Moura’s return to São Paulo in 2023 was widely viewed as a heartfelt homecoming following his successful career in Europe. During his time at Tottenham Hotspur, he became a fan favourite — especially for his unforgettable hat-trick against Ajax in the 2019 Champions League semi-final, which sent Spurs into the final against Liverpool.

More updates on his condition are expected soon.
