Pedro Porro has opened up about his angry reaction during the midweek game and also shared his thoughts on Tottenham Hotspur F.C.’s interim boss Igor Tudor.
The Spanish right-back explained why he furiously hit his seat in the dugout at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and strongly defended Tudor. Porro was visibly frustrated after being substituted in Spurs’ defeat to Crystal Palace F.C., directing his anger toward the fourth official before repeatedly punching his seat when he returned to the bench. Some supporters believed he was upset with Tudor for taking him off, but the defender quickly dismissed those claims.
Porro clarified that the reaction had nothing to do with the manager and was simply a result of his frustration with the situation. He said he always gives everything on the pitch and hates losing, which led to the emotional outburst. The defender added that the past few months have been extremely difficult for the team due to various challenges, including injuries, but insisted it has not affected the determination of the squad.
He admitted recent results have not gone the way Spurs had hoped, but stressed that the team must keep pushing forward and do everything possible to finish the season strongly.
Despite Tottenham losing Tudor’s first three matches in charge, Porro remains confident the Croatian coach can guide the club in the right direction. He said he believed from the moment he heard Tudor would join the club that the manager could help the team, although he acknowledged the coach is still learning about the players after only a few weeks in charge.
Porro also welcomed the return of Spurs captain Cristian Romero following a four-game suspension, describing the Argentine defender as a crucial figure for the team. According to Porro, Romero’s presence makes a huge difference and the squad is delighted to have him back.
The Spaniard also addressed the impact of injuries on the squad, suggesting that having more players available would make things easier for the manager. He explained that when the entire squad is fit, competition increases and the team benefits.
Looking ahead, Porro is preparing for a tough encounter against Atlético Madrid at the Metropolitano Stadium and warned his teammates about the difficult atmosphere they will face. This comes despite Atlético manager Diego Simeone suggesting Spurs are favourites for the UEFA Champions League round-of-16 tie.
Porro admitted Tottenham’s situation this season has been unusual. While the club currently sits 16th in the Premier League, just one point above the relegation zone, their European performances have been much stronger. Spurs secured their place in the Champions League knockout stage after finishing fourth in the league phase.
The defender acknowledged the team has struggled for consistency domestically but pointed out that Tottenham have performed well in Europe. He believes the squad must build on that momentum and try to translate their continental form into better results in the Premier League. ⚽
