Tottenham outline summer transfer strategy amid signs of stability
Tottenham are already turning their attention to the upcoming summer transfer window, with the club making it clear they intend to be active in strengthening the squad.
Speaking in an interview with the club, sporting director Johan Lange confirmed Spurs have “big ambitions” for the summer. During the January window, Tottenham completed deals for Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid, Hearts striker James Wilson on loan, and left-back Souza from Santos.
Despite recent struggles, the team’s response on the pitch has offered encouragement. Their second-half performance against Manchester City, after falling 2-0 behind, surprised observers and suggested the players remain fully behind Thomas Frank. The comeback highlighted the resilience within the squad, particularly in the context of an extensive injury list that has disrupted consistency throughout the season.
The scale of Tottenham’s injury problems has been described as unusual compared to most clubs, helping explain why the club did not push further in the January market. While James Wilson is viewed as a signing for the future, expectations remain that his involvement this season will be limited.
As injured players gradually return, confidence remains that Spurs’ situation will stabilise and pressure around the club will ease.
Former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness believes Tottenham are still capable of pushing for a European place, which he feels would be acceptable to supporters given the circumstances. Speaking on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness suggested injuries provide important context for Spurs’ current league position and noted signs of progress.
Tottenham were without 11 first-team players against Manchester City but still secured a 2-2 draw, helped by a Dominic Solanke double. Frank’s side are now unbeaten in four matches across all competitions, slightly easing the pressure on the 52-year-old head coach.
Wyness, who also previously served as chief executive at Aston Villa and Aberdeen, was speaking exclusively to Football Insider following the draw with City, pointing to renewed belief that Spurs can still salvage their season.
