Tottenham Hotspur have effectively identified just one realistic option to replace Igor Tudor as interim head coach until the end of the season — Ryan Mason.
Tudor was brought in as a temporary solution following the dismissal of Thomas Frank in February, but his tenure has failed to halt Spurs’ decline. Instead of stabilizing the situation, the team has suffered three consecutive defeats in the Premier League, pushing the club deeper into the relegation battle.
Tottenham currently sit just one point above the relegation zone and could drop further depending on results, with Nottingham Forest facing Fulham before Spurs travel to play Liverpool. Their upcoming clash with Forest next weekend could prove decisive in the fight to avoid relegation, especially with the final international break of the campaign approaching.
Behind the scenes, serious discussions have taken place regarding Tudor’s future. Concerns have grown about his ability to guide the club away from danger, and reports suggest that his management style has alienated certain members of the squad at a time when unity is crucial.
Several names have been mentioned as possible replacements, but Mason appears to be the leading candidate if Tottenham decide to appoint another interim coach while waiting to make a permanent decision in the summer. Other figures considered include former Spurs striker Robbie Keane and former Nottingham Forest manager Sean Dyche.
However, Keane is currently managing Ferencvárosi TC and competing for the Hungarian league title while also advancing in the UEFA Europa League, making a short-term move to Spurs unlikely. Dyche, meanwhile, is believed to prefer a long-term project rather than a temporary role.
Mason would also have the backing of Mauricio Pochettino, who coached him during his time in north London and has previously praised both his talent and character. Pochettino, along with Roberto De Zerbi, remains among the leading candidates to take the Tottenham job on a permanent basis in the future.
