Dominik Szoboszlai has acknowledged that Liverpool F.C. may need to scale back their expectations if they continue delivering performances like the one that resulted in a disappointing draw against Tottenham Hotspur F.C..

The midfielder did not hide his frustration after the game, especially after watching his team give up a late advantage that had seemed enough to secure victory. Szoboszlai had set the tone early by finding the net and putting Liverpool ahead, with the hosts looking composed and in control for much of the first half. However, their drop in intensity after the break proved costly. Just as it seemed they would claim all three points, Richarlison scored in the 89th minute to earn Tottenham a dramatic equaliser, leaving Liverpool stunned.

Speaking afterward, Szoboszlai admitted he found it difficult to explain what went wrong. He described the dressing room mood as deeply frustrating, noting that this was not the first time this season the team had conceded a crucial late goal.

He emphasised that the squad must quickly address their issues if they want to remain competitive at the highest level. The Hungarian also revealed his disappointment at full time, warning that if such results continue, the club may have to accept significantly lower ambitions than usual.

He even suggested that qualifying for the UEFA Europa Conference League might be considered a positive outcome if their current form does not improve — a clear indication of his concern about the team’s struggles.

Szoboszlai highlighted the stark difference between the two halves, praising Liverpool’s first-half display where they controlled possession and limited Tottenham’s chances. Aside from a few headers and isolated moments, he felt the visitors posed little threat before the break. After halftime, however, Liverpool lost control and failed to maintain their earlier momentum.

Looking ahead, he stressed the importance of unity within the squad, calling for honest discussions to resolve their problems. While acknowledging the team is going through a difficult spell, he insisted that sticking together and showing determination is the only way forward.

He also touched on the supporters’ reaction following the late equaliser. Although he did not personally hear any boos, he admitted the frustration from fans is understandable given the team’s recent performances.

At the same time, Szoboszlai urged supporters to keep backing the team during this challenging period. He reminded them of last season’s success, when Liverpool secured the league title early, highlighting the strong bond between the club and its fans.

Despite the setbacks, Szoboszlai remains optimistic that the season can still be salvaged. He believes there is enough time for the players to respond, rediscover their form, and demonstrate their commitment to the club through unity, resilience, and a renewed fighting spirit.
