Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario is reportedly closing in on a summer move to Inter Milan. The Serie A giants are searching for a long-term replacement for Yann Sommer, who is expected to leave when his contract expires in June. Sporting director Piero Ausilio was recently in London for talks, meeting Vicario’s agent Valerio Giuffrida ahead of Spurs’ Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid. Reports suggest Inter are confident of securing the deal for around £17 million.
Vicario, 29, featured in goal during Tottenham’s 3-2 win over Atletico Madrid, producing several key saves. However, the result was not enough to overturn the deficit from the first leg, where Igor Tudor’s side suffered a heavy defeat, leading to their elimination from the competition.
The Italian shot-stopper joined Tottenham in 2023 from Empoli for £17 million and initially impressed in north London. Over time, however, concerns emerged regarding his handling of aerial balls and distribution, leading to a dip in form.
Vicario had been a key figure under Ange Postecoglou before a broken ankle sustained during a 4-0 win over Manchester City in November 2024 sidelined him for three months. He later returned and played an important role in Tottenham’s Europa League triumph, keeping a clean sheet in the final against Manchester United.
Despite having over two years left on his contract, both parties are reportedly open to parting ways this summer. A move to Inter would see Vicario return to Champions League football, with the Italian side currently leading the Serie A table and pushing for another league title.
For now, Vicario’s focus remains on Tottenham’s crucial Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest. Spurs are currently battling relegation, sitting 16th and just one point above Forest in the standings.
