Tottenham Hotspur are still intent on appointing an additional sporting director to work alongside Johan Lange as they prepare for a major squad rebuild this summer. However, Lange’s position is uncertain due to underwhelming transfer dealings and the club’s decline since his arrival.
Despite that uncertainty, Spurs are continuing with their two-director structure, and the search for a second appointment has intensified. According to Pete O’Rourke, the shortlist has now been reduced to two candidates.
Former Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl and ex-Crystal Palace chief Dougie Freedman are currently the leading contenders, with discussions ongoing.
Other names have also been linked, including Tiago Pinto, now president at Bournemouth, as Spurs continue to assess their options ahead of the new season.
Earlier reports suggested Freedman had rejected an approach from Tottenham, though his continued presence in the running indicates that his stance may have shifted.
Kehl, who recently left his role at Dortmund, could be an appealing option as he would be available without compensation. Meanwhile, former Juventus director Cristiano Giuntoli has also emerged as a potential target.
Tottenham are expected to face strong competition for Giuntoli, with multiple clubs interested, as they weigh up their final decision for the role.
