Giorgi Mamardashvili saw his first Merseyside derby cut short after picking up an injury while attempting to stop Beto from scoring Everton FC’s early second-half equaliser.
The 25-year-old had started Liverpool FC’s last six matches in place of the injured Alisson Becker, but now looks set to join him on the sidelines after being forced off at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
His withdrawal led to Freddie Woodman coming on for his first Premier League appearance for the Reds, and the unfortunate way the Georgian keeper was hurt summed up the club’s difficult campaign.
So, how did Mamardashvili get injured?
In the 54th minute, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall sent in a cross from the left which Beto converted to level the score for Everton.
Mamardashvili rushed out in a desperate attempt to stop the goal but was caught in a collision involving both the scorer and Andy Robertson, who had tracked back to defend.
The goalkeeper needed immediate medical attention on the pitch and was eventually stretchered off, with Woodman replacing him for the rest of the match.
