Former Arsenal F.C. and Liverpool F.C. goalkeeper Alex Manninger has tragically died at the age of 48 following a car accident.
The heartbreaking news was confirmed by one of his former clubs, Red Bull Salzburg, in a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), expressing deep sorrow and extending condolences to his family and loved ones.
Manninger enjoyed a professional career spanning over two decades, including two separate spells with Salzburg. He is particularly remembered in England for his time at Arsenal, where he played a vital role in their 1997/98 double-winning campaign, stepping up impressively in place of the injured David Seaman.
He later had a stint with Liverpool during the 2016/17 season as a backup goalkeeper and also built a strong reputation in Italy, notably featuring for Juventus F.C..
