Liverpool F.C. have confirmed the permanent departure of teenage winger Trent Kone-Doherty, who has completed a move to Molde FK.
The 19-year-old made two competitive senior appearances for the Reds, both in domestic cup defeats in 2025 — debuting in the FA Cup loss to Plymouth Argyle F.C. last year and also featuring in the EFL Cup clash against Crystal Palace F.C. earlier this season. Although the Republic of Ireland under-21 prospect had been offered a new deal at Anfield, he opted for a fresh challenge in Scandinavia in pursuit of regular first-team football.
On Friday evening, Liverpool confirmed via their official website that Kone-Doherty has finalised a permanent switch to Molde (subject to international clearance) after four years with the club. In Molde’s announcement, the teenager described the Norwegian side as “the perfect club for me to come to,” with the reported fee around €750,000 (£657,000). His Liverpool contract had been due to expire this summer.
Kone-Doherty appears to have chosen his timing well, with Norway’s top division operating on a calendar-year schedule, potentially allowing him to make his competitive debut against Rosenborg BK in a fortnight. Long tipped for the professional game — having once been labelled a “flying machine” at youth club Foyle Harps — he previously trained with the Liverpool senior squad under Jürgen Klopp before Arne Slot handed him his first-team debut.
The youngster netted three times in the UEFA Youth League this season and added five assists in Premier League 2, while also earning praise for his performances with Ireland’s under-21s.
While Liverpool fans may wonder what he might have contributed in the long run, the move offers Kone-Doherty the chance to establish himself at senior level — a path increasingly taken by emerging talents from Britain and Ireland.
