Igor Tudor is facing increasing pressure at Tottenham Hotspur, with his position at the club reportedly under serious threat ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash with Liverpool FC. According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Spurs have not ruled out making another managerial change before the end of the season following Tudor’s difficult start.
The north London side have endured a poor run since the Croatian took charge, losing all four of his matches and conceding 14 goals. Their struggles continued in the Champions League on Tuesday, where they suffered a heavy 5–2 defeat to Atlético Madrid.
Tottenham currently sit 16th in the Premier League table, just one point above the relegation zone as they prepare to travel to Anfield.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano explained that while Tudor is still expected to take Friday’s press conference ahead of the Liverpool match, his future remains highly uncertain.
Romano said that although Tottenham have confirmed Tudor will face the media, the manager is still at serious risk of being dismissed at any moment. He added that the situation at the club remains very open in the short term, and further developments could depend on the outcome of the Liverpool game.
For the long term, however, Romano suggested that the club already sees Tudor as a temporary solution. The Croatian was given a short-term contract, with plans for a different managerial appointment expected in the summer.
Tudor was appointed interim manager in February following the dismissal of Thomas Frank. Since then, he has faced criticism, particularly after his decision to substitute goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky just 15 minutes into his Champions League debut against Atlético Madrid.
When asked about his future after the defeat, Tudor declined to comment.
Tottenham are already considering possible replacements if another change is made before the season ends. Reported options include former interim manager Ryan Mason, ex-Spurs striker Robbie Keane, and former Nottingham Forest boss Sean Dyche. While Mason and Dyche are currently without clubs, Keane is managing Ferencvárosi TC in Hungary and is on course to win another league title.
Another name linked with the role is former Brighton & Hove Albion and Newcastle United manager Chris Hughton, who has been out of work since leaving his position as head coach of the Ghana national football team in 2024.
Looking further ahead, Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly one of the leading candidates for the permanent role. The Argentine, who previously managed Tottenham before his dismissal in 2019, is currently in charge of the United States men’s national soccer team but is expected to leave when his contract expires after the World Cup. Reports suggest he would be open to returning to Spurs even if the club were playing in the Championship in the 2026/27 season.
